Food for thought.

When parents first decide to work with me I send them some questions before our first session to help them to step back and reflect on what is really important to them. I'm told this is very interesting, so I have decided to share those questions with you. This isn't homework - you are a grown up so you can choose not to do it; you don't need to write down the answers and please don't send them back to me. Just read the questions and then think about them in the course of the day, when you are doing other things. If you have a partner it may be useful to talk about your responses with them. The similarities and differences in your attitudes may shed some light on why you sometimes disagree on how to bring up your children.

What are your happiest memories of childhood?

What do you most appreciate about the way your parents brought you up?

What would like to do as a parent that is different from what your parents did?

What qualities do you appreciate most about your children as individuals?

When you think of them as adults, what are your hopes for your children?

What values and beliefs would you like to pass on to your children?

What do you find most challenging about being a parent?

What do you enjoy most about being a parent?

When do you have most fun with your children?

What are the three biggest changes you would you like to see in your relationship with your child/children?

What do you hope working with me will do for you and your family?

That’s it. I hope you found it interesting.

Have fun.
